Live in Hong Kong? If you did you could be hooked up to the fastest broadband available, 1 gigabit per second, for under $26 a month. In the US the fastest connections available are via Verizon‘s FiOS (fiber optic) and the highest speeds available comparatively creep along at less than 1/2 a gig per second and for that you can expect to pay nearly $200 a month for that level of service.

While Verizon claims there is little demand for such lightning speed technology, its availability – priced right -would certainly drive developers to create a completely different level of applications and drive the end user demand.

Google is looking to roll out tests in a few cities with its “Think Big with A Gig” campaign to determine if the public is hungry for the extra speed and to see if there are some killer apps that could come out of the new aut0bahn internet highway.
