Netflix for your DS - coming soon.

Looking to build momentum for their streaming video content, Netflix will be available on the soon to be released Nintendo 3DS. Netflix helped force Blockbuster into bankruptcy at the end of 2010 and saw some initial stock gains as a result. The new year has not been so kind  with a peak of around $248 a share now down to around $206 a share.

With the plethora of options for content from the likes of online providers like Hulu and cheap $1 rentals from Redbox, Netflix is under increasing competitive pressure to stay relevant and solvent. Amazon has entered the ring with a mighty hammer as well, they are offering free streaming video with there $79 a year Amazon Prime offer which provides free 2 day shipping with every Amazon order.

So the partnership with Nintendo spreading from Wii to DS is a natural extension, but will mom and dad belly up the $10 a month for the service for junior to watch videos on his handheld? Hmmmm.
